Overview

The Pradhan Mantri Formalisation of Micro Food Processing Enterprises (PMFME) Scheme was launched on 29th June 2020 as a Centrally Sponsored Scheme under the Atmanirbhar Bharat Abhiyaan. Implemented by the Ministry of Food Processing Industries, the scheme aims to formalise and strengthen micro food processing enterprises across India.

1. Common Infrastructure Support

  • 35% credit-linked capital subsidy on eligible project costs
  • Maximum subsidy of ₹3 crore for:
  • Farmer Producer Organisations (FPOs)
  • Farmer Producer Companies (FPCs)
  • Cooperatives
  • Self-Help Groups (SHGs) and their federations
  • Government agencies
  • Minimum 10% contribution required from beneficiaries
  • Remaining amount financed through bank loans

2. Credit-Linked Subsidy for Individual Units

  • 35% credit-linked capital subsidy for:
  • Individuals, proprietorships, partnerships
  • FPOs, NGOs, cooperatives, SHGs

  • Maximum subsidy: ₹10 lakh per unit
  • Applicable for new units or upgrading existing food processing units

3. One District One Product (ODOP) Approach

  • Promotes economies of scale in procurement, common services, and marketing
  • Supports value chain development and infrastructure alignment
  • ODOP approved for 713 districts across 35 States/UTs
  • Covers 137 unique products across India

4. Seed Capital Support for SHGs

  • ₹40,000 per member for working capital and small tools
  • Maximum limit: ₹4 lakh per SHG
  • Grant provided through SHG federations via SRLM/SULM

5. Marketing and Branding Support

  • 50% financial assistance for branding and marketing activities
  • Available for groups of FPOs, SHGs, cooperatives, or SPVs
  • Aims to promote processed food products of micro enterprises

6. Capacity Building and Training

  • Training through Food Processing Entrepreneurship Development Programmes (FPEDP)
  • Focus on:

7. Detailed Project Report (DPR) Support

  • Support for preparation of DPRs related to branding and marketing
  • Covers: product profile, quality control, packaging, pricing, promotion, storage, marketing strategies
  • Financial support up to ₹5 lakh through State Nodal Agencies
