Project Him Sarovar: An Overview

Project Him Sarovar is a landmark sustainable water management initiative launched by the Government of India to address chronic water scarcity in Ladakh—a high-altitude cold desert region facing severe water challenges.

Background and Context

Ladakh, despite being the recipient of substantial melting snow and glacial water, currently allows most of this precious resource to flow unused into rivers and streams. The region faces multiple interconnected challenges:
